HW 1

1 Reference solution document Sept 6th

A target problem set document is here: https://covail.cs.umbc.edu/robucci/cmpeRSD/hw/hw1/hw1.html This is largely based on examination questions given for written tests and quizzes in my undergraduate FPGA course.

I was able to generate a "solution set" (I give no representation of correctness) using the following prompt in notebook.google.com:

provide a solution submission for the following: https://covail.cs.umbc.edu/robucci/cmpeRSD/hw/hw1/hw1.html"

The solution document that was generated is here: ./cmpe691-hw1-solutions.pdf (I make no representation of correctness or completeness)
The AI did not generate the circuit drawing requested and only described it, but I did not put any other effort into this.

Your first task is to generate your own solution submission that you will use as a reference to complete an assignment in-class on Sept 8th. Your reference submission is due Sept 6th.

2 In-class written work on Sept 8th

A written, paper assignment will be conducted, which would include problems describing small changes from the provided solutions set. I will ask about how the changes would affect the solutions. I imagine that around 5 changes would be appropriate. Your reference document will be available for you to view on the computers in the lab.

Non-AI truth: You should ultimately rely on Cadence Xcelium (xrun) to verify results, perform conclusive investigations, and/or generate original work. I do not require evidence of this. Instructions on setup and use of xrun was provided in a previous email. You do not need to use AI at all to complete this work.

You are free to use AI (not required) through notebook.google.com using your UMBC account for this purpose, but any other use of AI must simply be disclosed. Maintain records (meaning do not delete) of use in your google notebook. You don't need to disclose AI results provided automatically by traditionally websearch engines.

3 What is due Sept 6th?

markdown+assests

I need a markdown file (.md) from you that can be used to generate a document that you would like to use as reference during the in-class work on Sept 8th along with any supporting assets like images. It may contain restatements of problems, solutions, and a reasonable level of explanations and commendatory about the problem and the solution that would be appropriate for a standard submission. You can use my posted PDF as an example of appropriate content. You are invited to produce hand-written drawing or solutions, but images of those must be embedded using markdown. I was able to have the AI in google notebook provide a markdown source file (md) and images by appropriate requests.

One document policy: Assets like images must be embedded using markdown syntax if you would like them to be available to you. ex:

![P1 plot](./p1plot.png)

Do not simply submit a folder or archive of many images and documents and expect to be able to explore them in a file manager on Sept 8th. All information must be embedded into one document.

Screening and redaction: Because you are submitting in advance of the in-class work date, I will have a chance to review your reference submission and I may remove any content that I think is excessive. This is way I would like to standardize use of markdown to streamline the process. I would notify you of redactions/changes.

4 Submission Process

Details will be provided the week of Sept 1st once the submission process is established.
